Is It a Sign or Just Another Horror Flick?
So, I caught up with “11-11-11” the other night, a film directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. He’s the bloke behind some of those “Saw” films that make you jump out of your skin, right? This one’s a bit different, though. Less gore, more creepy suspense. I was half expecting Tobin Bell to pop out and say, “Do you wanna play a game?”
The plot, mind you, is about Joseph Crone, played by Timothy Gibbs, who starts seeing the number 11 everywhere. Reminds me of when I was on Öland and kept noticing those wind turbines. Every turn you make, BAM, there they are! Anyway, the film had me wondering if seeing numbers everywhere is just a sign that you need to relax and maybe go for a skogspromenad.
Not Quite A Gripping Horror…
To be honest, the movie doesn’t quite grip you by the collar and shake you awake. I mean, sure, it’s got some good moments, like the eerie atmosphere. But the storytelling felt a bit… jag vet inte, was it 11 minutes too long? Maybe that’s why I zoned out halfway through and caught myself thinking about last year’s kräftskiva instead. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not terrible. It’s just that, ja du vet, it’s not a classic.
The cinematography deserves a thumb up, though. At times, the visuals were more engaging than the actual storyline. There’s something about a well-shot eerie church that sends a chill down your spine, even if nothing’s happening.
Final Thoughts
In my humble opinion, “11-11-11” is like that mysterious meatball you find in your sleeve after a julbord—strangely intriguing, but maybe unnecessary. For the horror fans out there, give it a whirl to see if it’s your cup of Swedish fika. As for me, I think I’ll stick to wind turbines on Öland for my suspense fix.
