3 Geezers! – A Rollercoaster Ride or Just a Flat Tire?

Alright, let’s chat about “3 Geezers!”. It’s a comedy film, and one that’s sure been buzzing around like a pesky fly. Directed by Michelle Schumacher, and featuring some Hollywood big shots like the hilarious J.K. Simmons and funny man Tim Allen, the movie had my hopes up, but I’m not entirely sure it delivered what I craved.

Picture this: a film crew poking around a retirement home to find out why old folks are so darn funny. It’s a quirky premise, kind of like when I tried to explain the beauty of Swedish surströmming to a friend; everyone assured me it was gonna be hilarious, but it ended up being more like a smelly surprise!

The film aimed high but landed more like a golf ball in the rough. Every once in a while, there were these over-the-top moments I did giggle at – like when the geezers attempted modern things, reminding me of when my granddad tried to use Spotify. But those moments were sprinkled like poppy seeds, and sometimes the jokes felt more forced than grandma’s table manners at Christmas.

But hey, maybe it was meant as a light chuckle kind of thing. Not every film needs to leave you with a lump in your throat, right? And, it has that indie spirit buzzing as it waddles like an old duck trying to find its place amidst slick Hollywood pond mates.

I might not rush to watch it again, but if you’re hanging out with family—especially someone who can relate to the characters onboard—it’s worth a try. Just keep your expectations somewhere between a bingo night and a lazy Sunday stroll through a Stockholm park.

P.S. Bring fika. Laughs come better with a coffee and kanelbulle in hand. Skål!
