Hej friends,

So, I finally got around to watching “A Kiss Before Dying” and wow, what a ride! This 1956 thriller grabs you right from the beginning and doesn’t let go. I’m really fascinated by how old-school movies manage to create suspense with so little.

The plot revolves around a charming yet cunning man who goes to extreme lengths to secure his future. Robert Wagner plays Bud Corliss, a handsome and ruthless fellow who decides to kill his pregnant girlfriend when he realizes her wealthy parents might cut him out of the inheritance. His cold-blooded schemes are pretty chilling, and let’s face it, a bit of a wake-up call on never judging a book by its cover, ya know?

The thing that stood out the most to me was the way they used shadows and music to build tension. It felt like you’re on the edge of your seat, biting your nails without realizing. Plus, the film’s noir vibes – loved the vintage feel, the classy suits, and oh, the dramatic pauses. They don’t make ’em like this anymore.

However, I gotta be honest, some parts felt a bit dragged out. Like, you know when you’re watching an episode of “Morden i Midsomer” and it feels like they could’ve wrapped it up ten minutes earlier? Yeah, there was a bit of that here.

One scene, can’t get it out of my head – when Bud pushes Dorothy off the building. The sheer cold-bloodedness of it! It had me thinking back to when I first watched a Hitchcock film as a kid. It gave me the same chills. And speaking of Sweden, it reminded me of all those gloomy autumn days in Stockholm that just set the perfect mood for a good thriller.

I’m curious to see if any of you have seen it or what you think of these older thrillers. Do they still hold up in our era of CGI and fast cuts?
