Admiral: High Seas and High Stakes

So, I watched “Admiral” the other night, and I gotta say, Rutger Hauer once again showed why he was such a legend. They’re sailing into these massive battles, and I’m just munching popcorn like there’s no tomorrow. Directed by Roel Reiné, who knows a thing or two about action, you’re in for a frikkin’ thrill ride.

The mood? Intense. It’s like you can hear the cannons from your sofa. The sound design had me ducking for cover – either that, or I’m just a wimp. But lemme tell ya, the visuals are absolutely stunning. You get these sweeping shots of the sea that’ll make you appreciate being nice and dry on land.

Now, I’m not saying it’s flawless. The story’s got more twists and turns than a Swedish highway in the archipelago, which sometimes felt a bit too much. There were moments where I had to pause and scratch my head, wondering if I missed something in translation. Yet, it all fits the narrative, mostly. And yes, there’s a dash of historical liberties. But isn’t that sort of expected in these kinds of films?

Memories of the Sea

This film took me back to a summer when I was, um, attempting to sail with my uncle near Gotland. Whole thing was chaos – ropes everywhere, and I swear the boat had a mind of its own. Watching these mega ships with a full crew handling the stormy sea, I chuckled thinking about me trying to navigate that little sailboat.

It makes you think about how those sailors must’ve felt back in the day. Loads of camaraderie and survival instincts. Just like when we Swedes band together over a fika.

So, grab a coffee, some kanelbullar, and dive into “Admiral”. It’s worth the voyage even if it gets a bit choppy on story now and then. Enjoy!
