Amanda & Jack Go Glamping: A Little Too Tältliv?

Alright, buddies, let’s dive into the whimsical world of “Amanda & Jack Go Glamping.” It’s directed by Brandon Dickerson and features the oh-so-charming David Arquette, along with Amy Acker who brings her usual warmth. This one’s supposedly about rekindling love in the idyllic world of fancy camping—tältliv with extra pizzazz, as we might say back home. Your mate here couldn’t quite figure out if it was genuinely sweet or just a bit syrupy with all the romance and nature clichés.

The premise sounds promising, right? Escape modern life’s chaos for a tent. I mean, who hasn’t thought about ditching the concrete for a peaceful forest now and then? But here’s the kicker—the film feels, I don’t know, a little like when you pack for midsommar and realize you’ve forgotten half your stuff. Charm is there, but there’s also confusion, especially when some quirky side characters overstay their welcome.

Watching it made me think of that time I went camping near Abisko with a bunch of old uni mates. We thought we knew what we were doing, had all these grand plans, but it rained all weekend. We ended up playing cards inside our tents, wet socks everywhere—kinda like Jack’s idea of a getaway that doesn’t quite go as planned.

The music and visuals do a decent job of capturing Texas (not quite as magical as our Lapland though). And Arquette, bless him, tries to balance humor with heart, but something about the script keeps him from fully soaring. It’s not a total flop, but maybe it tries a bit too hard to be a rom-com for the glamping set.

It’s like glamping itself, folks—a lovely idea if you’re into luxury meets roughing it, but not everyone’s cup of tea. Would I watch it again? I think I’d rather risk the rain in Abisko.
