Badsville: A Dive Into Nostalgia and Grit

Okay, so there’s this film I watched, “Badsville.” It’s got some proper bite to it, you know? Directed by April Mullen. She also did that crazy film “Below Her Mouth.” Quite the step in an unexpected direction, if you ask me!

Let’s dive headfirst into this, shall we? “Badsville” brings together a ragtag gang and their wild (borderline mad) journey through loyalty and love. I was instantly reminded of those summers up in Norrland when we’d form our secret clubs and swear brotherhood an’ all that under the midnight sun. Ah, nostalgia!

Ethan Embry lights up the screen like a fyrverkeri (firework), playing the role of violent yet vulnerable Wink. How’s he not topping more rosters? There’s a rustic flair to his performance, like he’s carrying the weight of a thousand unresolved skirmishes.

But I’m on the fence here — the drama feels like it’s treadin’ on familiar turf. Maybe it’s just me and my endless stream of crime flicks, quiiickly becoming my achilles heel. We’ve seen tales of brotherhood unravel under a corrupt cityscape time and time again, right? Think “Gangs of New York” meets “Rebel Without a Cause.”

However, the aesthetics! There’s something about the dusty roads and dimly lit dive bars that took me straight to that feeling when you first step off an Arlanda bus into the bustling Stockholm cityscape at dusk — that kinda breath-taking chill.

Wanna be jerked around by your emotions (I’m sure y’all love a good emotional rollercoaster) and have a look into the darker corners of camaraderie? You might find “Badsville” packs a heavy punch, although maybe it lands a bit too familiar. Get a warm cupa and enjoy — it just could surprise you, like finding an extra kanelbulle when you thought you’d run out.
