So I finally got around to watching “Battle of Los Angeles” — and boy, what a ride! This movie is like a smörgåsbord of action, special effects, and chaotic alien invasions, sprinkled with some questionable dialogue and plot holes big enough to to fill up Slussen. Yeah, you know, the place in Stockholm where they always seem to be reconstructing something.

The film kicks off with a bang, literally. Aliens are invading Los Angeles, and it’s up to a group of brave (and slightly insane) marines to save the day. Sounds like something you’d watch on a Saturday night after a few beers, right? Maybe I’m just a sucker for this kind of sci-fi military mashup, but I was genuinely entertained.

Aaron Eckhart, the guy who played Harvey Dent in “The Dark Knight,” leads the cast. The man can act, no doubt about it. But I have to admit, the script does him no favors. It’s full of the kind of macho one-liners that would make even an action figure cringe. Like “Retreat? Hell!” — I mean, really?

The special effects are a highlight, though. Explosions, laser beams, collapsing buildings — it’s like watching Michael Bay on a caffeine high. The sound design, too. My living room sounded like Gothenburg during the Way Out West festival.

But let’s talk about the story, or rather, the lack of a coherent one. It jumps around more than a Swedish hare. One minute they’re fighting aliens, the next they’re trying to rescue civilians, and then suddenly it’s all about finding the alien HQ. It’s like the director picked up a handful of action movie tropes and threw them at a wall to see what sticks.

Despite the narrative mess, some moments actually hit home. There’s a scene where the soldiers talk about their families — it’s a brief respite from the chaos, and it reminded me of my grandfather’s stories about his time in the military. The camaraderie and the personal stakes felt real, even if just for a moment.

And oh, if you’re looking for a deep, philosophical exploration of mankind’s place in the universe, jag tror du får leta vidare. This film is pure, unadulterated popcorn entertainment. It’s the kind of movie you watch with friends, laugh at the absurdity, and maybe throw in your own jokes.

So, is “Battle of Los Angeles” good? Nah, not really – make up your own mind though – here’s a sneak peak via the trailer
