A Bloody Trip Through “Blood Punch”
Hey movie mates! So I just watched “Blood Punch,” and let’s just say, I’m still figuring out what I think about it. You know how sometimes you get home from a night out, and you’re not sure if you just had the best time or if you’re still processing the chaos? That’s exactly how I feel about this film.
Directed by Madellaine Paxson—no, not a big Hollywood name like Spielberg or Tarantino, but an intriguing voice nonetheless—and starring Milo Cawthorne, who you’ll remember from “Deathgasm” if you’re into quirky horror– it’s a trippy ride. To be honest, it took me a while to get into it. Like, the first 20 minutes are a bit of a head-scratcher. I felt like I was back in high school deciphering Ingmar Bergman’s complex themes in some dim-lit classroom with my teacher who never smiled.
The story is a mind-bending loop (think “Groundhog Day” but with more blood and a lot less Bill Murray charm). Imagine if Bergman and Tarantino had a moody love child with a thing for dark humor. The plot twists, like sneaky herrings in a pea soup, keep you on toes, or maybe just make you dizzy.
While watching (around 10ish, after a long day of work and a can of folköl later), a memory hit me. A group of us once tried to decipher philosophy over a campfire in midsummer, only to get lost in our own theories, not unlike the characters getting lost in their own madness.
The performances are solid, and the chemistry between Cawthorne and the rest is like a well-cooked Scandinavian dish—surprisingly satisfying. But hey, it’s not perfect! Some scenes drag, and I’m not sure all the blood and twists land like they’re supposed to. Felt a bit like trying to solve a rubik’s cube blindfolded.
Overall, “Blood Punch” is worth a watch if you’re up for something different, maybe with a friend who enjoys a little cinematic puzzle. You’ll either end up discussing wildly mixed theories or scratching your heads. Either way, it’s a night worth remembering. Or forgetting, who knows?
Skål, and happy viewing!
