Cold Zone – Chillier than a Swedish Winter

Hej kompisar! Just settled down with a cup of kaffe and an oddly comforting kladdkaka to chat with you about a film that recently caught my eye: “Cold Zone.” Now, this flick, helmed by the talented Emile Smith (you may’ve seen his handiwork in some other nature-gone-berserk films), is trying to paint an icy doom scenario. And he’s got an intriguing choice of canvas, sort of like mixing Bergmans’s somberness with a Hollywood blockbuster vibe. Maybe not as deep, though.

The film stars Steve Bacic, whose face you might recall from many a sci-fi series. To be honest, I thought my TV remote was stuck in a Stargate loop when I saw him snow-trekking across North America’s frozen wilderness. There’s warmth in his eyes even when the world is turning to a freezer.

Our dear Steve, along with an ensemble cast, navigates the havoc wreaked by a sudden freeze. It’s a bit like a Stockholm winter, except it’s July and -30 degrees. Brrr! I did find myself rooting for them, though I felt they expected a bit more from the CGI folks. The icy chaos sometimes seemed more like a popsicle mishap than a glacial apocalypse.

When I Needed Extra Blankets

Gotta tell you, this movie reminded me of a misadventure during a camping trip in the Swedish Lapland. Just like Steve and his crew, my friends and I didn’t quite expect the weather to play punk. One moment it was all midsummer joy, next thing we were digging for sleeping bags like castaways. It was the kind of chill that makes you rethink your life choices.

Now, don’t get me wrong. “Cold Zone” isn’t exactly aiming for Oscars, but if you’re in for a classic Sunday chill-pill with popcorn galore, it hits the spot. The air of unpredictability—both in weather and character choices—keeps you on your toes.

So, snuggle up, maybe skip the ice cream, and enjoy the frosty ride. Även om filmen kanske inte frälste mig, it sure brought some icy nostalgia. 🥶
