Dawn Patrol: A Beachside Tango Between Guilt and Redemption

First off, let me just say I was kinda surprised when I stumbled upon “Dawn Patrol.” You know how sometimes you wake up at like, 5 am, jetlagged after a flight back to Sweden, and you find yourself watching the sunrise at Stenshuvud with nothing but seabirds for company? That’s the unsolicited bliss Dawn Patrol threw me back into. But, dear film buffs, this one’s got a sting in it.

With Scott Eastwood leading the pack—yes, Clint’s son, and boy does it show in those steely looks—you can’t help but be curious. The movie, directed by Daniel Petrie Jr., drags you into a whirlpool of family drama and revenge, all while the Californian waves crash dramatically in the background. It’s the kind of movie that makes you smell the salty air and hear the crunch of sand under your feet.

Our mate Scott plays a marine-turned-surfer struggling with some pretty gnarly family and moral dilemmas. It’s intriguing, if not a bit cliché. The whole revenge cycle is like something out of a Midsomer Murders episode—predictable, yet entertaining in its own sun-soaked way.

But, eh, I felt like the supporting cast, including Rita Wilson, sometimes got lost in the surf. They floated in and out without making the splash they should’ve. It’s like when I tried to make kroppkakor for the first time; promising start, but the end product was kinda uneven—still tasty, though.

I’m not saying don’t watch it. Just maybe don’t expect to catch the perfect wave with this one. It rocks a solid soundtrack and some lush cinematography, which definitely deserves kudos. So grab a cup of joe, give it a go, and see if it stirs any dawn patrol vibes in you, too.
