Deadfall (2012) – Cold Blood, Warm Coats, and the Occasional WTF

Look. Deadfall is one of those films I remember mostly because of a night in Norrland, 2013 maybe? Jag hade precis käkat renskav och satt ensam i en stuga med min fars gamla filt runt mig and… Deadfall came on. The snow in the film literally matched what I saw out the window. I legit thought the house was haunted.

Directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky – yes, the Austrian guy who won the Oscar for The Counterfeiters – which, cool, right? But honestly… Deadfall feels like he forgot he wasn’t directing a snowboarding ad. Everything’s *so* icy and blue it’s like watching your freezer develop trauma.

About the cast though: Eric Bana plays this creepy, almost Viking-y dude who kinda looks like he’s been kicked out of Valhalla for being too intense. And Olivia Wilde – she’s in it too, plays his sister (which gets weird). Then Charlie Hunnam comes in, a bit wet behind the ears still, but charming in that “I punch emotions in the face” kind of way. You’ve got Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson too, who bring some serious gravitas that the film doesn’t quite know what to do with.

The story? Sort of a snowy, siblings-on-the-run thing with weird vibes and daddy issues flung around like slask på E4:an in April. It tries to be part heist, part survival, part family drama… and I dunno, maybe a tiny bit weirdly incestish? Not like “Game of Thrones”-level but still. Jag kände mig obekväm.

Anyway, it’s not a masterpiece, men det är som en pizza på Statoil kl 02:00 – sometimes it hits the spot, even if it ain’t pretty. Give it a go if you’re into cold visuals, broken people, and films that make you go, “Eh, why not?” But don’t expect to walk away feeling… warm.
