Fly Guys (aka Kill Speed)

You know when you hear that a movie’s got these legendary fast-paced aerial scenes and it kind of gets your blood pumpin’? Well, that’s pretty much what “Fly Guys” had me curious about. But, I’m really scratching my head about how it all turned out. The movie features Tom Arnold, you know him from all sorts of things like “True Lies,” and Nick Carter, the Backstreet Boys guy – yep, he’s in it too. They team up with other daredevils to smuggle some fancy substance in super-fast planes.

As I watched it, I couldn’t help thinking back to that time I tried my hand at paragliding over in Åre. A bit of adrenaline to the brain, the wind rushing by – think you’ll relate to that. But man, where that ride was pure giddy excitement, I feel like “Fly Guys” was just… trying too hard?

Let’s talk about those aerial shots; they’re bonkers in a good way. If you’re a fan of the “whoosh” of fast planes like I am, you’ll appreciate the visual spectacle. The director, Kim Bass, did well there. Problem is, around those scenes, the plot kind of wobbles like a reindeer on an icy road; it gets you from A to B, but you’re never really sure if it’s all gonna hold together.

Some of the tech talk was beyond me—I mean, maybe I was daydreaming about my last fika or something. But really, who wasn’t there to see those planes do crazy stunts? The acting? A bit wooden, like those old log cabins in Dalarna. Coulda used a bit more shine.

Anyway, “Fly Guys” is like that bag of salty licorice you pick up cause you’re curious, but by the time you’re halfway through, you’re wondering if you should’ve just stuck with chocolate.
