I just watched King Arthur: Excalibur Rising, och let me tell you, it’s quite a ride. You know that feeling when you’re at a buffet and you’re not quite sure if the meatball justifies the gravy? That’s kinda how I felt about this film. It’s a mixed bag — some bits are juicy, while others are just… meh.

First off, the movie’s got some eye-catching visuals. Think of those misty landscapes you see up in fjällen, but less cozy and more medieval. The cinematography brings a certain panache, a kind of rugged charm that is similar to the old school sagas, which resonates well with us Swedes considering our affinity for rich, epic landscapes.

But then, the acting… I gotta say, it’s as uneven as a springtime road in the middle of Goteborg’s rain. Sometimes, the characters pull you in, make you root for them like a classic AIK match. Other times, it’s like watching a low-budget soap opera. I mean, come on, even Ronny Svensson would’ve had a field day with some of these performances.

The storyline? Well, it’s far from the Arthurian legends we grew up reading about. It tries to sprinkle some new spices in the old soup, but it doesn’t always hit the mark. There’s a part of me that appreciates the effort – you know, like when someone brings klimpsoppa to a potluck. But I think the writers might’ve been trying too hard to make it unique.

I do have to mention the score though – Jesus, it’s like putting on your favourite vinyl on a rainy Sunday. It’s atmospheric and sets the mood beautifully.

You know, watching this film actually reminded me of that summer in my parents’ stuga by the lake. We’d sit around the fire, telling tales of old knights and dragons, while the Sun barely dipped below the horizon. It’s those memories that kinda made me look past some of the movie’s flaws.

Despite its imperfections, maybe you should give it a go? Gather some pals, get some snacks and settle in for an entertaining, if not particularly stellar, evening. It’s like a kaviar tube – not for everyone, but some might find it oddly satisfying.
