Well, folks, here it is: “Last Chance Harvey”, a film that snuck up on me like that sudden craving for kanelbullar on a Sunday afternoon. A quaint little number starring Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson — two legends of cinema, right? — that somehow manages to make my heart beat a little faster while simultaneously nudging me into an existential crisis. I mean, who knew romance could still exist in a world full of IKEA furniture and Netflix?

The film revolves around Harvey, a down-in-his-luck jingle writer who, let’s be honest, feels about as relevant as the VHS tapes collecting dust in our attics (admit it, you’ve still got some of those). It’s not exactly ground-breaking, but maybe it doesn’t need to be. He’s in London for his daughter’s wedding, feeling a bit like that lone herring at a kräftskiva – out of place and terribly unwanted.

And then, there’s Kate. Oh, Emma! She plays this slightly cynical airport worker who meets Harvey at the bar. There’s something so… comforting, I think, about seeing two people connect over something as simple as a chat at the airport. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it? How many life-changing conversations have we missed because we were just too busy staring at our phones or complaining about the weather?

To be perfectly honest, the chemistry between Hoffman and Thompson truly elevates an otherwise predictable plot. It’s like a perfectly brewed Swedish kaffe med dopp – simply delightful. That said, the movie takes a bit too long in certain places, kinda like waiting for your toast to pop up even after it’s already starting to smell a bit burnt. But then again, maybe patience pays off.

Reminded me of that time in Göteborg when I missed my flight and ended up sharing stories with an old musician. Pure magic, just like Harvey and Kate’s connection in this film.

So, grab a cup of kaffe, settle into your favorite armchair, and give “Last Chance Harvey” a go. Who knows? It might just make you believe in second chances. Or at least make you want to book a spontaneous trip to London.

And if you’re still not sure, check out the trailer yourself. It’s just a click away.
