Let’s Talk About the Rain… and a Little More

So I finally got to watch Let It Rain, or as it’s called in French, Parlez-moi de la pluie. Directed by Agnès Jaoui, who just has a knack for these human stories, right? It’s like she plucks neighbors from Sundbyberg and drops them in some delightful mess. The film stars the charismatic Jean-Pierre Bacri and the lovely Jamel Debbouze, both grounding the story with their unique charm. These guys are just ace at showing off the clumsy elegance of everyday folk.

Okay, diving in. The film follows Agathe, played by Jaoui herself, who’s a feminist politician caught in the storm – both metaphorically and literally. She visits her family home in the south of France, and of course, everything collides like traffic on Sveavägen in rush hour.

Watching it, I remembered this one time I tried to help my mom with her campaign for the local council back in Göteborg. I mean, she’s a total Avis, determined and whatnot. But, we couldn’t even agree on the design of a bloody pamphlet! Agathe’s struggle… oh boy, relatable much? Family dynamics, politics, and ambitions can really mix into a fine, or maybe not so fine, cocktail.

And sure, the movie had its slow bits. I found myself distracted, counting sheep during a few scenes. But then again, the beauty lies in its randomness—like that unplanned fika break with a friend where conversations veer off into wild territories. Plus, the cinematography captures the provencal countryside with a sense of damp beauty, and you kinda feel the misty drizzle in your bones.

But if you’re into small-town ripples and family shenanigans that unravel like a cozy Swedish drama, grab this one. As far as rainy-day flicks go, this might get you talking as much as an impromptu chat over a rain-soaked cinnamon bun.
