Alright, so I caught *Nothing Left to Fear* the other night, and let me just say—det var en riktig berg-och-dalbana. The film’s about a pastor and his family moving to a small town, only to find out it’s basically Satan’s playground. Right out of the gate, you get these eerie vibes. The film’s director, Anthony Leonardi III, I think, he nails the atmosphere. You can almost smell the damp wood and hear the creaking floors. Men, the story, ah… it’s a bit of a mixed bag.
I’m a fan of horror that creeps under your skin, you know, like in *Let the Right One In* (Låt den rätte komma in for us). This one, though, felt a bit predictable at times. There were moments that really got to me, like when the youngest girl’s standing by the lake, it’s foggy and you don’t know what’s lurking. Chills, I’m telling you. But other scenes—especially towards the end—well, I kind of ended up thinking “Åh nej, inte igen!” like some twist I’d seen too many times.
However, I can’t deny Clancy Brown as the sinister town elder was bloody good. Han gör alltid rollen bra. And the music! It’s produced by Slash—yes, THAT Slash—adds an edgy, almost nostalgic touch to the fearful bits. Talking about the score reminds me of the time I tried to learn the electric guitar in high school. I must say I was no Slash, more like a hedgehog wrestling with it. Anyways, I digress.
Another thing that really stood out was the cinematography. The shots of the town are so well done that you almost feel like you’re there. Pange i småstad somewhere in the American Midwest. It’s like visiting Hälsingland, but with way more undead shenanigans.
In the end, *Nothing Left to Fear* has its scary moments but doesn’t quite push the envelope to make it a must-see. It’s decent for a late-night watch, especially if you’re in the mood for something spooky but not too demanding. Maybe grab some popcorn and invite a few friends over. And if you got a couple of those IKEA lanterns, turn off the lights and let them flicker. Adds to the whole eerie atmosphere.
For those curious, here’s the trailer so you can judge for yourself.
