Nurse 3D: A Bloody Mess or A Guilty Pleasure?
Let me tell you something, pals. If you’ve got a thing for blood and guts, Nurse 3D, directed by Doug Aarniokoski, might just hit the spot. It’s like a mix of cringe and cackle, where you’re not sure if you should be horrified, falling out of your chair laughing, or maybe both. Starring Paz de la Huerta as Abby, this movie gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “killer looks”. You also get to see Katrina Bowden running around, looking confused, which kind of becomes a mood for the entire film.
So, here’s the gist. Abby’s a nurse by day and a psycho by night. There’s more to it, but that’s the heart of it. She’s supposed to be this avenging angel, slashing her way through the dudes who can’t keep it in their pants. Now, while the concept is so over-the-top it’s like topping a smörgåstårta with extra garnish, the whole thing feels stuck in a fever dream. It’s like those Värmland nightmares after eating too much surströmming.
Once, after seeing it at a midnight screening, I remember stumbling out of the cinema with my mate Anders. He asked, “Was… was that supposed to be funny?” And we had a laugh. It reminded me of those late-night horror marathons on SvT when we were kids, bingewatching till we dozed off. Nurse 3D kind of gives you that vibe. It’s low-brow, it’s trashy, and sometimes that’s okay.
But let’s be straight—Nurse 3D is no masterpiece, and it’s weird since it almost feels like it tries soooo hard not to care at all. The writing, at points, is as flimsy as a paper hat. But hey, if you’re in the mood for some bloody escapism? Maybe give it a go. Just don’t take it too seriously, yeah? That’s a rule I learned a long time ago – some movies are just meant for a Sunday afternoon with friends, a big bag of ostbågar and maybe a forgiving glass of wine. Cheers to that.
