Older Than America

Older Than America is one of those movies where you go in expecting something and come out scratching your head a bit, but in a good way. Directed by and starring Georgina Lightning—a powerhouse of talent if you ask me—this film weaves together mystery, history, and a bit of the supernatural. It’s like a cultural deep dive into the Native American experience, which is both eye-opening and, let’s be honest, sobering.

Now, you know how sometimes a movie just sticks with you because it hits a personal note? This one was that for me. It brought back memories of when I played cowboy and Indian as a kid in Lidingö, not really understanding anything about those cultures. It’s crazy how films can do that—make you remember something you didn’t even know was still tucked away somewhere in your brain.

Bradley Cooper’s in this one too, back before he became “The Bradley Cooper” we all know today. Seeing him in a role this serious is a bit like spotting a moose in Malmö—unexpected and intriguing. And I’d be remiss not to mention the touch of mysticism throughout the story. I found myself glancing out the window a couple of times, half-expecting to see some spirits wandering my backyard.

If you’re the kinda person who likes movies to be straightforward, maybe it’s not your cup of coffee. But if you’re up for some thought-provoking cinema that’s a bit off the beaten path, give it a go. Just maybe keep a Falu Röd handy to ward off any lingering spirits. I think you’ll find it grabs you in ways you weren’t quite prepared for.
