Open Water 2: Adrift Review – A Splash of Tension and Terror
Alright, folks, let’s dive into “Open Water 2: Adrift.” And let me tell ya, this one’s got more ups and downs than a rollercoaster at Gröna Lund. I mean, I’ve seen some stressful films about, you know, being stranded at sea, but this one is really something else.
First off, you got Susan May Pratt who plays Amy. Honest to God, she holds it together like a Swedish librarian in a hurricane. I think her performance really carries the weight of the film. But then there’s Richard Speight Jr., rocking the role of James. Watching him bob around like a cork, you can almost feel the panic seep into your bones. They do a bang-up job in capturing that raw fear of the deep blue.
Now, here’s the thing, the film’s directed by Hans Horn. Yeah, don’t worry if you haven’t heard of him. Same here. I thought, okay, who are you then? But he does bring this tense atmosphere, sort of creeping into your skin like a chilly gust of Swedish autumn air. The tension is thicker than my grandma’s pea soup!
Speaking of sea adventures, let me tell you this. Years ago, I was on a boat trip near Gotland. We decided to take a swim. But – and this is the kicker – we forgot to toss down the ladder. Yep, just like in this film. So, watching this was, well, a bit too close for comfort.
Anyway, the plot might go a bit adrift, pun intended. Sometimes the storyline feels like it’s treading water, if you catch my drift (heh). The emotional depth (or lack thereof) might not compete with our classic Ingmar Bergman ruminations, but hey, not everything can, right?
So, if you’re looking for a flick that makes your heart race and your fingernails dig into the armrest, “Open Water 2” will do the trick. Maybe chuck it on after a Fika break – just saying!
