President’s Day

So yeah. “President’s Day”. I honestly thought it’d be one of those throwaway slasher flicks, y’know, some low-budget silliness to watch with a kebab in hand after a night out around Götgatan. But this one… weirdly stuck with me.

Directed by David Zuckerman – the guy’s mostly done comedy stuff before, like “Family Guy” stuff (I know, right?) – and starring Judd Nelson of all people. Like, *The Breakfast Club* Judd. I had to google twice to make sure it was actually him, not some lookalike. Add to that a couple of those fresh faces – you recognise them, but can’t name ‘em – and suddenly you’ve got this campy horror comedy with way too much blood and just enough wit to make it work.

Honestly it reminded me of när jag och brorsan smög oss in på Filmstadens gamla skräcknatt i Sundbyberg nån gång sent 90-tal. We ended up watching “April Fool’s Day” thinking it was a porn or something. Same kinda vibe here – goofy, a bit too violent to quite relax, but somehow you don’t wanna leave the room.

The plot’s bananas. A killer dressed like George Washington offs high school candidates during student elections?? Come on. It’s completely bonkers. But that’s part of its charm. Feels like the writers knew it was nonsense and thought, “Skit samma, let’s go all in.” And weirdly, the satire slapped too. Sort of poking at American politics in the dumbest way but still hitting a nerve.

It’s not perfect. Some of the kills were lazy. Editing wobbles badly in the second act. But it’s got that VHS-era charm. Like, you wouldn’t miss it if you never saw it, but if you do – fan vad kul du har.

Watch it with your cousins over burgare and läsk next Friday.
