Prisoners of the Sun: A Wild Ride Through Egyptian Mythology
Alright, mates, let’s chat about “Prisoners of the Sun”. So, what do you get when you throw John Rhys-Davies into a tomb? A movie that’s part Indiana Jones and part… well, I’m not sure what else honestly. And hey, David Charvet, from “Baywatch” fame, trying his hand at adventure. Honestly, who would’ve thought he’d go from saving folks in slow motion to battling ancient curses?
Here’s the skinny: This film’s about a group of explorers digging up an Egyptian tomb. Suppos’ably it holds great secrets or at least some well-preserved mummies. Oh, and guess who else is along for the ride? Good old Joss Ackland – any 80s film fans out there? Yeah, him.
But seriously, director Roger Christian is at the helm of this one, and I kinda remember seeing his works before. Didn’t he do something with “Star Wars”? Well, there’s certainly more drama and dust than I remembered in those galaxy far, far away.
I can’t help but think about a time when I was a kid – maybe, oh, like 20 years ago – and I visited this kind of exhibition on ancient Egypt. There was this super creepy mummy exhibit, you know, with that eerie yellow lighting? It always stuck with me. Watching “Prisoners of the Sun” kind of brought that back… the nostalgia, not the creeps.
Now, maybe this ain’t a blockbuster, but there’s something intriguing about dusty relics and sunshine. It’s like finding an old, forgotten treasure map with “X” on it, right in the middle of Flen, of all places!
Yeah, the film’s special effects could use a bit more… polish, to put it mildly. But if you’re in the mood for an easy watch with a splash of Egypt, grab some popcorn and give it a go! Just keep the lights on, you might need them when the mummy groans start… or not, who knows!
