Reservation Road
Alright, my friends, let’s dive into “Reservation Road”. This flick, helmed by Terry George—talk about real talent right there! He’s known for heavy hitters like “Hotel Rwanda”. You should see it if you haven’t. Anyway, this one’s a real drama-fest featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Ruffalo. Phoenix always immerses, right? He has this knack for making you feel both uncomfortable and mesmerized at the same time.
You know that feeling when you’re at the seaside in Smögen, and the wind just cuts right through your hoodie? That’s the kind of raw emotional exposure this movie gave me. Set in the aftermath of a tragic accident, Phoenix and Ruffalo’s characters are two fathers on opposite sides of the event. I mean, talk about an emotional roller coaster!
Fun fact: When I first watched this one, the Måns Zelmerlöw song accidentally started playing in the background at the cinema. Quite the mood lifter amidst all the drama! Came in handy, really, when the tension felt like it was grindaloo (a bit too spicy for comfort, in plain Swedish).
Now, back to the nitty-gritty—while the acting’s top notch (Jennifer Connelly, mates, she’s got the touch of gold), there’s something about the pacing in this film that felt… well, not quite AR (appreciated retardation) as I hoped. Some scenes dragged on like a Swedish November morning, leaving one a tad frustrated. But maybe that’s the point. Grief, huh?
This flick gnaws at the heavy stuff. Guilt, vengeance, control slipping like a greasy köttbulle. You’d be thinking way after the credits roll if you’re anything like me. Maybe it even hits home, if life ever threw you a curveball. Och vet ni, it’s all wrapped up in that somber American backdrop, like a Springsteen soundtrack without the sax solos. So, should you see it? Definitely… But maybe skip the pop song mishap and experience the raw feels firsthand.
