Hej folks,
So, I caught *Save the Date* the other day and, well, it’s one of those indie rom-coms that is kinda quirky but also kinda predictable. You know, like when you are out in Skärgården and the weather’s perfect but somehow you still manage to get your socks wet. Happens to me every time.
The film brings together Lizzy Caplan and Alison Brie as sisters navigating love and relationships—Lizzy plays this commitment-phobe artist, Sarah, while Alison’s character, Beth, is all about getting hitched. There’s this whole dynamic that feels familiar yet fresh, like eating knäckebröd with a new flavor of cheese.
I think what stood out the most to me was how *Save the Date* manages to blend humor and emotion. The dialogues felt so genuine, it’s like listening to my friend Jonas go on about his dating disasters. Particularly, Lizzy Caplan shines as Sarah; her character kinda reminds me of that one friend we all have who’s always a bit of a mess but endearing nonetheless.
But, not gonna lie, sometimes it felt like the film was trying too hard to be deep. There are scenes where the pacing drags a bit, and you find yourself glancing at the clock. Maybe it’s just me, but I felt like it could’ve used some trimming—like a good ol’ Swedish hedge come spring.
Funny enough, watching this film reminded me of a time back in the late ’90s when I almost missed a wedding because of a flat tire. There I was, in my best dress suit, learning the hard way that you should always check your spare. Those little quirks of life kinda echo throughout the film, making it relatable.
If you’re a fan of heartfelt yet imperfect love stories, I’d say give it a shot. And hey, everyone needs a bit of romantic chaos in their lives, no?
