Saw 3D: The Final Chapter – Gore Galore and a Trip Down Memory Lane

Alright, let’s chew the fat on “Saw 3D: The Final Chapter.” If you’re like me, a sucker for all things horror, this one might just tickle yer fancy. Directed by Kevin Greutert with the grisly mind of James Wan behind the wheel, you’d think the last hurrah of Jigsaw would hit the mark. But, oh boy, there’s a lot to unpack.

First off, let’s talk about Tobin Bell who’s back as the voice of creepy Jigsaw. If you’ve spent a good part of your youth avoiding scary basements thanks to these movies, you know his voice is basically the sound of nightmares. The famous Cary Elwes returns to the scene and boy, does he carry some nostalgia with him. I reckon his role is a nod to the series’ beginnings — a clever move to rope us OG fans back in.

Now, I remember back in 2004, sneaking into the first “Saw” movie with a mate. We gobbled up too much lakrits and regretted it halfway through when the bathroom scene made its iconic debut. Saw 3D tries to bring some of those heart-pounding, oh-no-they-didn’t moments, but honestly, it feels a bit like overused sepia Instagram filters. The traps, you could say, were more bark than bite.

But I can’t lie — the 3D gives you these wacky “duck-for-cover” moments which are decent if you like dodging flying limbs. Yet, I left the theater feeling like I’d just seen a Swedish soap opera, with more sawing and less…well, compelling dialogue.

Anyway, maybe Jigsaw should just take a break, have a fika, and let us savor the old scares. If nostalgia’s your game, sure, give it a swing. But don’t say I didn’t warn you about the déjà vu.
