Shelby: A Ride Through Memories and Madness

So, Shelby—what a rollercoaster of emotions and horsepower. James Franco, of course, is doing his usual Franco thing with that signature mix of intensity and aloof charm. And Zoe Kravitz, she’s got this electric presence that really keeps you glued to the screen. The director, Peter Jackson, did a fantastic job balancing the chaos and calm. I mean, who knew the man behind Middle-earth would steer into the fast lane like this?

Imagine my surprise when the opening scene hit—felt like I was right there, on a stormy summer night, reminiscent of the one back in ’92. We were camping in the archipelago, and my dear friend Anders thought it’d be a grand idea to “borrow” his dad’s old Saab for a joyride. That night was chaos, with headlights barely cutting through the fog and nerve-wracking silence before a flock of birds came out of nowhere. Shelby somehow taps into that thrill, madness, and the strange bond you feel when sharing a wild ride with friends.

I loved the visual effects, they were something! The cars almost danced on the road. But, let me level with you—some plot twists felt more out of place than an ABBA record in a metal collection. Midway through, you’re left scratching your head wondering if you’ve missed something, or if the writers just took a fika break and forgot to finish a scene.

Yet, there’s something relatable in how Shelby explores themes of loyalty, regret, and chasing dreams—a special kind of nostalgia. It makes you think of times when life’s uncertainties were beautifully untamed. Remembering your own wild adventures (and questionable decisions) is inevitable. Maybe it’s the lingering sound of tires against asphalt, or Franco’s nonchalance, but Shelby is one of those experiences you won’t forget easily.

If you’re into speed, memories, and a bit of madness, give Shelby a spin. Just maybe don’t expect too much coherence.
