Smekmånaden från helvetet
Ah, “Smekmånaden från helvetet” or “You May Not Kiss the Bride” as our Anglo friends would say. What a rollercoaster! You ever plan a honeymoon and it turns into a bizarre action-comedy-romance mish-mash? No? Well, this film will definitely make you appreciate your calm Swedish getaways.
First off, let’s talk cast. Rob Schneider makes an appearance! I know, I know. You either love him or…well, let’s just say he brings his own brand of humor. And Katharine McPhee, fresh outta her American Idol stint, does a charming job as the bride tossed into this chaos. Her chemistry with Dave Annable, who plays the poor husband caught up in this mess, is engaging but feels just a tad bit forced at times, you know?
Now, I must admit, I was secretly hoping for a cameo from Gustav Skarsgård. Because, why not? Toss in a Swede and you’re guaranteed some added flair!
The film itself? It’s like someone tried to make a smörgåsbord but forgot the knackebröd. It’s got action, tropical backdrops, mobsters—you name it. Maybe it tries a little too hard to be everything at once, like when I tried baking both kanelbullar and semlor on Midsommar, but hey, it has its moments!
There’s this one scene where they’re all in a cheesy resort. It reminded me of a holiday in Gran Canaria back in ’03. Spent 30 minutes trapped in a gift shop because of a sudden downpour, bonding over tacky fridge magnets. This film kinda felt like revisiting that—fun and chaotic with some unexpected laughs.
All in all, it’s like a quirky fika with a friend who’s a bit unpredictable, but you cherish just the same. Don’t go in expecting profound insights on romance, but do expect a decent amount of entertainment. Maybe grab a kanelbulle and settle down for something light, alright?
