Hey movie lovers!

So, I just watched “Standby” last night, and wow, what a ride! You know those films that just sneak up on you? This is one of them. A rom-com, sure, but it’s got this whole nostalgic vibe that really pulls you in.

The plot follows Alan and Alice who, after some odd twists of fate, end up working at the same airport’s standby counter. Imagine “The Lunchbox” meets “Love Actually,” but with a bit more Swedish soul, and maybe an extra dose of Irish wit. There’s this really authentic warmth to their interactions that you don’t see too often. And Alan’s awkwardness? It’s so Spot on (reminded me of that awkward crush I had back in gymnasiet).

What really struck me was the chemistry between the leads. You can almost smell the coffee at the airport café where they often hang out, hear the low murmur of people rushing to catch flights. It all feels so, well, close to home, if that makes sense? Like, as if you could just teleport there and join them.

But, honestly, the pacing could’ve been a tad tighter. Some scenes dragged a bit, making me glance at my watch (Okay, my phone. It’s 2023 after all!). And the predictable moments? Yeah, there were a few, but haven’t we all seen this play out in real life too?

Speaking of real life, the film reminded me of that time at Arlanda. Remember when flights were constantly delayed that one winter due to the snow? The sense of unexpected connections and conversations with strangers – “Standby” has that same unpredictable charm. It’s these small, seemingly irrelevant interactions that build up to something meaningful, you know?

Overall, if you’re looking for a light-hearted, feel-good flick that’s not too saccharine but still leaves you smiling, give “Standby” a go. Maybe it’s not a cinematic masterpiece, but it’s like a warm cup of cocoa on a chilly Swedish kväll.
