Isn’t Three a Crowd?

Alright, so I’m back from watching “Taken 3” and needed to share my thoughts while they’re still fresh, kind of like how mom always insisted on fresh lingonberries for the jam. You know, sometimes I wonder if Liam Neeson ever wishes he’d go back to the simpler times, not constantly being embroiled in life-or-death situations but, say, chilling in a Swedish forest. But then—aren’t we all a little bit thrilled he doesn’t?

So, ol’ Liam is back as Bryan Mills, and this time he’s not the one doing the taking—or is he? I dunno. Sometimes it felt like the plot was taking me for a little ride! This installment was directed by Olivier Megaton. Yes, the guy with a dynamite surname and an appetite for explosive action. And honestly, he makes you feel every bang and boom.

Famke Janssen, bless her heart, reappears briefly, and Maggie Grace, well, she does her best to not get taken (again!). Forest Whitaker joins the fray, adding a gravitas that almost feels out of place in what’s supposed to be just another adrenaline-fueled chase. Like finding a piece of knäckebröd in your croissant, you know?

Watching this movie brought back a memory of when I lost my own bike as a kid. For a moment, I felt like my own little Neeson, running around the neighborhood, convinced I could track it down with intensity alone. Spoiler: I didn’t find it. Here’s hoping Mills is a tad more successful.

To be honest (and I always try to be), this film is a bit like surströmming. It’s an acquired taste. Fans of the franchise will gobble up the action eagerly, but casual viewers might find themselves holding their nose a bit. Maybe it’s best shared with friends over a beer, just like we do with the latest gossip here in Sweden.

All in all, it’s a rollercoaster. But then, who doesn’t love a good ride once in a while?
