Fick a chance to catch The Big Picture yesterday, and gotta say, it was a rollercoaster, folks! Not quite sure what I expected, maybe some kind of French existential thing (you know how they are), but it surprised me in the best way.

It’s one of those films that sneaks up on you. Starts like your everyday drama but suddenly hits you with this rush of identity crisis. It’s like, one moment you’re sipping on your javla coffee thinking you know who you are, then bam, you’re questioning your whole existence. And the music, oh man, it wraps around you like a warm svenskfika blanket. Trust me, sometimes the scores say more than the dialogue and jeez, it resonated.

Now, I must admit, at times the film felt like it was too artsy for its own good. I mean, we’re talking long scenes that could maybe have been trimmed a bit otherwise I could’ve made a kanelbulle in between. But then, who doesn’t love a little self-indulgence now and then? It adds to the charm, I suppose.

Bringing back memories of my days as a fledgling cineaste, I remember catching a similarly themed flick at a festival in Gothenburg, thinking, this is what cinema’s all about – making you question and reflect. The Big Picture’s all about these moments, like staring too long into the sunset over a summer evening in Småland, losing track of who you are and where you’re going. The film’s a conversation starter and that’s something I absolutely dig. Especially since we all wonder if we’re living the right life or just faking it until we make it, ja?

So if you’re in need of a little existential pondering, grab a friend, some snacks, and check out the trailer here: The Big Picture
