The Humanity Bureau: A Dystopian Glance with Nic Cage

Alright, folks. So, I watched “The Humanity Bureau” the other night. You know, that one where Nicolas Cage is doing his thing in a dystopian future. Directed by Rob W. King, this film tries to tackle some pretty heady themes. And what a ride it is! Cage, as always, brings his quirky flair, but man, sometimes I wonder if he’s just in his own movie universe. Ever seen him in “Con Air”? It’s a bit like that, but with less hair and more apocalyptic vibes.

I remember once going out to a cabin in Värmland. Off the grid, just trees, silence, and an outhouse that smelled downright lethal. Made me think about this movie’s deserted feel. But instead of pondering life’s great mysteries over a fire, the thought of living in Cage’s future world makes me thankful for our politically stable even if rain-soaked Swedish reality.

Now, Sarah Lind and Hugh Dillon played their parts well. They dive into this whole overthrow-the-government shtick with gusto. But I’m not sure the story was for them. Felt like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube with mittens on. Ya get me? There’s a plot twist and everything, which, I guess, isn’t totally unexpected but keeps the engine running.

Didn’t love all of it. The sketched-out future, while meant to be gritty, just seemed a bit too off. Maybe it’s just me having watched “Blade Runner 2049” a couple of times too many. Comparisons are inevitable, I guess.

Spend a couple of hours with this movie if you love Nic Cage being Nic Cage. It might not change your life, but it gives a fun “what if” to chew over with a drink in hand. And in our dark Scandinavian winters, sometimes a little dystopia is just right.
