The Pact II: A Sequel That Stirs Yet Befuddles

Alright, so I sat down late Thursday night, had my trusty cup of Swedish gräddost on knäckebröd. This time, it was “The Pact II” flashing on the screen, with directors Patrick Horvath and Dallas Hallam trying to get under my skin—good luck with that, my friends!

Now, let’s get the good stuff out first. You know, Lotta Losten is sort of a hidden gem. She nails that spooky vibe without overdoing it. Reminds me of a time I was watching Alfred Hitchcock with my mormor, back when I was a small göbbe, and she’d suddenly scream mid-watching—which could scare the socks off you more than any actual ghost on screen!

Anyhow—unlike those terrifying, old classics, “The Pact II” plays it a bit safe at times. But this is where it gets a bit funky. The music! It kinda sneaks up on you; like when you’re at ICA, and suddenly hear “Dancing Queen” from a distance. A bit disconcerting but in a nice way!

In terms of plot…eh? It’s like they started peeling a potato and then kinda forgot about it midway. Don’t get me wrong, there are moments of tension but they often lead you into a mist rather than towards any solid conclusion. Have you ever tried walking to Gamla Stan on a foggy day? Ja, mycket frustration, my friend.

And yet, I can’t completely bash it. There’s a part two charm, I think. The Swedish lagom in me says it’s okay not to be perfectionist each time. It’s worth a watch if you’re into guessing games and strange oddities. But, maybe keep the lights on! Just a little advice from one film nerd to another.

To wrap it, give it a try. Even if just to see how a sequel contrasts its predecessor. Trust me, our own lives are a series of sequels too, some more baffling than others, right?
