Touchback: A Time Warp with a Sports Twist

Alright folks, let’s jaga into the world of “Touchback,” a film that’s got a twist or two, but is it enough to hold you in your comfy fåtölj on a rainy Sunday? Well, let’s dive in, shall we?

So, here’s the thing. This movie, directed by Don Handfield, slinks its way into that tricky mix of sports and fantasy, kind of like if “Friday Night Lights” decided to take a little detour into a time machine. It’s got Brian Presley and Kurt Russell, and as any good cinephile know, Kurt can turn anything into an adventure, even een bilresa till ICA.

Presley plays Scott, a former high school football hero who gets a chance to redo the past—and who hasn’t dreamt of that, huh? I mean, come on, we’ve all wanted a time machine to redo that one cringe moment at Midsummer when we knocked över the jordgubbstårta. Or is that just me?

It’s all wrapped up in that feel-good nostalgia that’s as warm as knäckebröd straight from a warm sun beam. But, and this is a but as big as a moose in Småland, sometimes the film leans a bit too much into those syrupy moments. Not that I don’t love a good sentimental scene, but you know, it’s gotta feel a bit authentic, like a late-night conversation över fika.

There are scenes where the pacing feels slower than the queue at Systembolaget on a Friday. Maybe it’s just the script taking a powernap, or perhaps it’s the film trying to be deeper than a Swedish philosophical seminar. But hey, ambitions don’t hurt, right?

One thing that struck a chord, though, was the theme of choices and second chances. It’s something we all ponder, är det inte? Especially during those long, contemplative saunastints. Life’s roads are winding and unpredictable, and this film tries—oh, it really tries—to capture that essence.

So, worth a watch? I reckon it’s one of those films you could give a whirl, especially if you’re in the mood for some sports nostalgia with a side of life’s what-ifs. Just don’t forget, even in films about time travel, you can’t rewind your popcorn burns!
