Venus & Vegas: A Rollicking Ride

So, here I am, diving into *Venus & Vegas*. The director, demigod or dare I say, madness maestro, Demian Lichtenstein, has crafted something that’s either going to leave you chuckling or scratching your head in puzzlement.

Seeing Eddie Kaye Thomas from American Pie fame play Danny, was like running into an old high school buddy at ICA – an unexpected but welcome surprise. Donald Faison, the Turk from *Scrubs*, adds his oddball charm to the mix, almost stealing the show without even trying. These guys, together with a ragtag crew, decide to pull off a Vegas heist, which sounds foolproof but – spoiler – really, really isn’t.

The whole thing reminds me just a smidge of the time I tried to smuggle my stubborn cat onto a train in Malmö—exactly the kind of half-baked plan that feels brilliant at the pub but falls apart quickly in real life. If only they had a plan B!

To be honest, Venus & Vegas feels a bit like an old-school caper, which maybe is why it feels like stepping into a time machine back to the days of classic heists. There’s something undeniably endearing about watching these would-be masterminds bungle their way through the plot like they’ve had a bit too much påskmust.

And maybe it’s not groundbreaking cinema, but it has heart, you know? Those crazy antics make you root for them—like hoping you’ll win that stuffed animal at the Gröna Lund shooting gallery, despite awful aim.

The humor’s there, even if some jokes are cornier than my uncle’s annual Christmas card. But sometimes, you just gotta sit back, let your brain take a coffee break, and enjoy the ride. Or, I think so, anyway!
