Weekend Hunt: A Hog Wild Ride

So, Weekend Hunt, or Pig Hunt as it’s known in some circles. What a wild film! It’s this crazy mix of horror and dark comedy that had me both squirming and chuckling in my seat. Directed by Jim Isaac, who worked on some classics like Jason X. With Isaac’s knack for infusing horror with a touch of absurdity, I should’ve known this was gonna be a rollercoaster. David Arquette pops up in this film like a sprinkle of cinnamon on your morning porridge. Unexpected but somehow it works.

The plot spins around a group of friends heading out for a weekend hunt in the woods. Now, I’ve been on a few weekends out in the Swedish wilderness myself. There’s something about that crisp air and the feeling you’re being watched… by pigs, of all things? It’s a bit ludicrous but hey, that’s part of the charm. Back in the day, I once had a close encounter with a particularly grumpy wild boar in Småland. Let me tell you, those tusks look even more frightening in real life. But I’ll save that story for another time.

The film’s atmosphere is rugged, gritty like Swedish gravel roads. Isaac really knows how to highlight the eerie silence of the forest—just hearing the crunch of leaves can send shivers down anyone’s spine. The film is manically paced, like you’re skiing downhill and there’s this constant tension bubbling under the surface.

Now, I do have mixed feelings about some of the gore. It gets a bit over the top, but maybe that’s the point? It adds to the whole “anything can happen” vibe. You might find yourself questioning the sanity of the characters, or even the filmmakers.

One thing’s for sure, Weekend Hunt isn’t your everyday countryside picnic. It’s a trip, and whether you love or hate it, you won’t quickly forget it. Give it a go if you’re in the mood for something outlandishly different. Just maybe, keep an eye out for pesky pigs the next time you’re out and about.
